Is there anyone of you that are aware of the crises in Papua New Guinea? No, didn’t think so. Every day the women and children in Papua New Guinea are in danger of being raped or exposed to violence. Not just by their husbands or fathers, but also by other family members, friends or neighbors. There are 55% of the women that have been exposed to violence or rape. Thousands of those who have been raped are suffering from diseases and injuries, because they don’t get the help they need. They’re in danger of getting HIV, hepatitis B, tetanus and of course unwanted pregnancy. They’re also in danger of getting mental illnesses, such as posttraumatic stress disorder, agony or they can get depressed. All these things can lead to suicide. There are thousands of women and children that commit suicide because they are being exposed to rape and violence.

Everyone who has been exposed to rape or violence needs medical help. Almost none of those who are being raped visit a doctor. That’s because there are very few doctors in Papua New Guinea. There are only 300 doctors in the country, and these are supposed to help millions of people. That’s not enough. If the women and children decide to visit a doctor, it is only because they are seriously injured such as bone fractures or stab wounds. Maybe even worse things too. But when they get to the doctor they don’t get the help they need, they are being sent home again. This is what Doctors Without Borders want an end to.

Picture this: small babies from 8 months up to 16-year old teenagers are being raped every day, not least all the women. There are none of these who get help. And no one who knows what’s happening in Papua New Guinea, because there is nothing about it in the media. This is a forgotten priority.
Share this with everyone you know, family, friends and acquaintances.
The more who knows, the fewer will die!
